A Great Way To FLY

South Africa Welcomed us 25 Years Ago

On 29 March 1992, we touched down in South Africa for the very first time in the land of the great Nelson Mandela. We remain fully committed to this important destination for the past 25 years. Bearing testimony to this is the launch of our Airbus A350 to South Africa on 27 June 2016, making it our second global destination for this new aircraft.

Our flights have linked Africa to Asia and help to promote trade and tourism between the two regions. We have consistently delivered a world class service to our customer, and have been receiving multiple awards in recognition of our mission to provide passengers with the best products and services, both on the ground and in the air.

Here's to many more years of a great way to fly!

Queen of The Skies

B747-300BT.jpg

The majestic Boeing 747 had paved the way for us to become the world class airline that we are today. Providing the ability to fly longer distances and carry more passengers, this magnificent aircraft had enabled us to expand and add on more destinations to our global network.

The 747-300 known as the "Big Top" was the first Singapore Airlines aircraft to arrive in South Africa. SQ406 landed at the then Jan Smuts International Airport in Johannesburg amidst a resounding reception by Zulu Dancers on the tarmac. Keeping in line with our ethos of innovation and technology, the Boeing 747 was one of the most sophisticated aircraft at the time.

On 27 March 1994, the 747-400 took flight to South African skies as we increased our frequency to Johannesburg and commenced flights via Johannesburg and Cape Town. However, all good things must come to an end, in order to make way for something better. The 747-400 gracefully left South African skies for the last time on 30 November 2002, and was replaced with the daily service on the Boeing 777-200ER.

We salute these iconic aircraft for their many years of service to our fleet.

Accolades for Great Service

Singapore-Girl.jpg

The Singapore Girl was born in the fashionable era of the '70s. She is still the epitome of elegance and class, styled with her signature sarong kebaya with the intricate Asian batik design. She is the symbol of Asian hospitality and remains timeless across generations.

We at Singapore Airlines recognise the importance of creating a pleasurable and memorable experience when you are flying with us. The Singapore Girl is just one of the many reasons we are a great way to fly.

We're more than just great service.
