Australia and New Zealand
AUS

Welcome to Southwest Pacific! The first destinations we'd like to highlight are Australia and New Zealand. While there are significant differences between the cuisines of the two countries, we also see a lot of similarities.

A real authentic dish from Australia is the Aussie burger with 'the lot'. This famous burger is the Australian type of hamburger. This loaded burger comes with bacon, a runny fried egg, pickled beets, and mango chutney. The burger is served with potato wedges and lettuce. What makes it authentic is the beetroot. Some say that the inclusion of beetroot in the burger started in the 1930s when two canneries started their production, resulting in a great surplus of the ingredient.

For the Kiwis, fish pie is considered a comfort food and is served at family gatherings. The pie usually contains one or more fish types and serves the right combination of a hearty filling with a flakey pastry and a crunchy topping.

Singapore
Laksa

Our culinary trip continues to Singapore. With a rich heritage of food dishes influenced by Chinese, Indian, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisines, Singapore is a true foodie's paradise. From local street food to fancy celebrity restaurants, the options are limitless.

One of the most iconic food experiences in Singapore is going to a hawker centre. Hawker centres are basically community dining rooms, with vendors selling their unique dishes through their food stalls, and are very much an important cultural heritage in the culinary scene of Singapore. One of the popular dishes sold in hawker centres is Singapore laksa, a Peranakan dish with Chinese and Malay influences. This luscious thick noodle soup resembles a curry and is often cooked with shrimp, fish slices, cockles and beancurd. When you are in Singapore, do make sure to visit the Katong area for the best laksa in town. Another unique dish sold at the hawker centres is the Hokkien mee. This popular dish consists of delicious noodles often stir fried with vegetables and meat or seafood.

Thai

Our third destination is Thailand. For fresh food and ingredients, make sure to visit one of the many floating markets.

Taste the freshness of herbs through the ultimate Thai food, a lovely curry or a mouth-watering stir-fried noodles.
The green beef curry for instance, is a rich dish with flavours and textures that will tantalize your taste buds. The tender beef, the sweet aubergine and red bell-pepper, and a crunch of roasted peanuts will suprise you.
Another way to taste the Thai cuisine is through a stir-fry. The tasty Thai stir-fried noodles with shrimp and chicken creates an irresistible taste full of flavours.

Indonesia
Indonesia

In our culinary journey, we can't skip Indonesia. The Indonesian cuisine is very diverse and can vary from region to region. In some regions, dishes tend to be sweet while in other areas, spicy tastes are prevalent. But one thing's for sure - Indonesian food will trigger a true sensation. The great thing about Indonesian cuisine is that you often don't have to pick just one dish. In Indonesia you are often offered multiple harmonised small dishes which you can combine.

Now you have the chance to make a Balinese rice tableExternal Link* yourself with the meal boxes from HelloFresh.
