Singapore Airlines launches first A380 service between Singapore and Hong Kong
9 July 2009 - The Singapore Airlines A380 will make its grand entrance today in Hong Kong when the world’s largest passenger aircraft touches down at Hong Kong International Airport.
Over 450 customers have just embarked on their journey between two of Asia’s major commercial hubs on SQ 856, which departed from Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 3 at around 0950 hrs. They are scheduled to arrive at Hong Kong International Airport at 1330 hrs.
The superjumbo will then set off for the return flight from Hong Kong, SQ 861, at 1600 hrs, and land in Singapore at 1940 hrs.
The Singapore Airlines A380 has proven exceptionally popular with our customers, with strong loads on all routes it serves. System-wide, Singapore Airlines has flown more than 1.4 million customers on its A380s, which also serve Sydney, London, Tokyo and Paris. The trend looks set to continue, with bookings for Hong Kong’s first scheduled A380 services also seeing an encouraging response since the launch of commercial sales.
The A380 is the crown jewel in Singapore Airlines’ young and modern fleet, and we are proud to be able to introduce this wonderful aircraft on one of the most important routes in our network. We are delighted that our customers have come to embrace the Singapore Airlines A380 and its industry-leading cabin products,” said Mr Huang Cheng Eng, Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President Marketing and the Regions.
Singapore Airlines was the first carrier to operate the A380 in October 2007. Since the start of commercial service, the aircraft have clocked more than 35,000 flying hours on more than 4,000 flights. The Airline currently has nine A380s in service, 10 more on firm order and options on another six.
The Singapore Airlines A380 features the new Singapore Airlines Suites, where each Suite is the customer’s very own private cabin in the sky, replete with a luxurious and fully adjustable leather seat upholstered by world-renowned Poltrona Frau, as well as a full-sized bed and a sleek 23-inch high-resolution LCD monitor.
It is also configured with the new award-winning full-flat Business Class seat, the widest in its class at 34 inches (86 centimetres), in a spacious 1-2-1 configuration on the upper deck. The new Economy Class also delivers more comfort and legroom thanks to the use of innovative design features such as a non-intrusive reading light and height-adjustable leather headrests with side panels.
Customers can unwind in the comfort of their seats, enjoying the epicurean delights specially created by the world-renowned chefs on our International Culinary Panel, while surfing through the more than 1,000 entertainment choices available on the new KrisWorld, Singapore Airlines’ state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system.
