SIA’s Cabin Crew Organise Fun-Filled Day For Less Privileged
More than 100 volunteers comprising cabin crew from Singapore Airlines brought much cheer and smiles to some 300 elderly and 83 children from low-income families at an event held today at Choa Chu Kang Community Club.
Organised by SIA’s Cabin Crew Club for Community Care (5Cs) in collaboration with Fei Yue Family Service Centre, the event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Singapore’s Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong. SIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Goh Choon Phong, Executive Vice President Human Resources & Operations, Mr Ng Chin Hwee, Senior Vice President Cabin Crew, Mr Tan Pee Teck, and Fei Yue Family Service Centre’s Executive Director, Mr Leng Chin Fai, also attended the event.
The crew volunteers shared interesting information about the airline industry with the children aged seven to 12 years old and taught them essential service skills such as how to serve food and beverages, food nutrition knowledge and public speaking. Some of these skills were later put to use when they served lunch to the elderly.
The day consisted of several activities which were conducted by other SIA Cabin Crew extracurricular activity groups. These included a lion dance performance, Zumba session, as well as other dance and song performances. The beneficiaries were also presented with vouchers and lucky draw prizes.
“Singapore Airlines is well known for our excellent service in the air. Through events such as today’s, we are able to extend this to help serve the less privileged and show our care in a simple and tangible manner. I think I can say on behalf of the volunteers that the smiles on the faces of the elderly and children make this initiative extremely worthwhile,” said Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Cabin Crew, Mr Tan Pee Teck.
