We encourage staff to help make a difference in the communities that they serve. In the lead-up to Singapore's 50th birthday in August 2015, the Airline organised a series of fund-raising events including the SIA Charity Gala Dinner and SIA Charity Run.
With the support of about 500 staff volunteers, a total of $2.5 million was raised for the Community Chest of Singapore, a non-profit organisation that raises funds for many charities in Singapore. This was matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore Government, lifiting total funds raised to about $5 million.
More than 300 Community Chest Beneficiaries, many of whom had never flown before, were also treated to a special flight on the Airbus A380, the world's largest commercial aircraft.
In July 2015, the Airline also opened the doors of its training centre to the public for the first time for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how its pilots and cabin crew are trained. All proceeds earned from the SIA Open House activities were donated to the Community Chest of Singapore.
