Get acquainted with Ms Jeannie Cho Lee; the first Asian to be awarded the illustrious Master of Wine title in 2008, Mr Michael Hill Smith; the first Australian to pass the rigorous Master of Wine examination and be awarded the prestigious Order of Australia in recognition of his contribution to the Australian wine industry, and Mr Oz Clarke; one of the most recognised wine critics in the UK and esteemed Officier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole by recognition of the French government in 2010.

About the Wine Consultants

Ms Jeannie Cho Lee, Mr Michael Hill-Smith and Mr Oz Clarke currently make up the SIA panel of wine consultants. They are tasked with the selection of all wines served on Singapore Airlines and the development of the Airlines’ staff training programme in wine appreciation.

Jeannie Cho Lee

Ms Jeannie Cho Lee is the first Asian Master of Wine, and award-winning author, wine judge, educator and critic. She was awarded the Legion of Honor for her contributions to French gastronomy and wine in 2021 by the President of France. In 2015, Jeannie was selected as one of the top 100 most influential people in Hong Kong by the South China Morning Post and Debrett’s, and voted the 25th most powerful person in wine by Decanter magazine (UK).

She holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University, a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a Certificat de Cuisine from Cordon Bleu and is a qualified sake sommelier.
Michael Hill Smith

Michael Hill Smith

Mr Michael Hill Smith is a wine consultant, wine judge, writer and commentator. In 1988, he was the first Australian to pass the rigorous Master of Wine examination and won the Madame Bollinger Tasting Medal that same year. He established the highly rated Shaw + Smith winery with Martin Shaw in Adelaide Hills in 1989.
 
As the current Australian Regional Chairman for the Decanter World Wine Awards, Michael has extensive tasting experience in numerous international and Australian wine shows. Michael received his education in Roseworthy Agricultural College and holds an Advanced Diploma from the London Cordon Bleu School. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Order of Australia in recognition of his contribution to the Australian wine industry.
Oz Clarke

Oz Clarke

Mr Oz Clarke is a prolific writer who has received all the major wine writing accolades in the UK and US, including the Glenfiddich, Wine Guild and Lanson awards. He has authored many books on wine – including “Bordeaux”, which won the Louis Roederer International Wine Book of the Year award and “Grapes & Wines”. His most recent books are "Oz Clarke on Wine: Your Global Wine Companion" and "English Wine".
 
Oz also hosts several popular television and radio programmes, in addition to being co-chairman of the International Wine Challenge. In 2010, he was awarded the esteemed Officer of the Order of Agricultural Merit by the French government.
