Listen To Books On Singapore Airlines Flights

“While audio books have been a feature in our in-flight entertainment offering for some time, this new selection of titles recommended by the National Library Board has broadened our range of fiction books. We are constantly seeking to improve the entertainment experience for our customers and hope this will be just the start, with more audio books to be offered in future.”

NLB and SIA partnership brings more audio books to KrisWorld

02 May 2012 - Joint Release with National Library Board - Customers on board Singapore Airlines flights can now look forward to a wider selection of audio books on KrisWorld, the Airline’s award-winning in-flight entertainment system, through a collaboration with the National Library Board (NLB). They can relax and enjoy a “good read” while in the air without the hassle of packing their own books or eBook readers.

The initial batch of 13 audio books includes all-time favourites such as Dracula by Bram Stoker, Wizard Of Oz by L. Frank Baum and The War Of The Worlds by HG Wells. Customers can unwind during their flights while listening to the narration of these classic tales. (Refer to the Annex for a full list of the titles.)

“Audio books are the next best thing for busy travellers who do not have time for a ‘good read’. They can help bring a story to life using voices, tonations, accents, and sound effects that spark the listener’s imagination. The listener can also hear the words exactly as the author intended, enhancing the ‘reading’ experience,” said Ms Tay Ai Cheng, Assistant Chief Executive and Chief Librarian, Public Library Services Group, National Library Board.

“While audio books have been a feature in our in-flight entertainment offering for some time, this new selection of titles recommended by the National Library Board has broadened our range of fiction books. We are constantly seeking to improve the entertainment experience for our customers and hope this will be just the start, with more audio books to be offered in future,” said Mr Tan Pee Teck, Senior Vice President Product and Services at Singapore Airlines.

To provide frequent travellers with a wider choice, the list of audio books is refreshed monthly. A full list of the available titles can be found in KrisWorld, Singapore Airlines’ in-flight entertainment magazine, as well as at http://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/flying-with-us/musiclanding/newaudio/.

More audio books and other electronic resources are also available via NLB’s eResources website (http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg) which has a collection of over 2.2 million titles and over 2.3 million copies.
